Seismic Hazard Map
With the introduction of the IBC building, facilities have been categorized by a use group (IBC 2000/2003) or occupancy (IBC 2006). Each type of facility has different restraint requirements which should be addressed when constructing a new building or renovation under the IBC building code. This map represents the areas of concern for the IBC seismic restraint requirements. Within each territory, we have highlighted the different requirements depending on the building use. Locations within the red highlighted areas should be concerned with seismic restraint when constructing life safety facilities. Locations within the orange highlighted areas should be concerned when constructing life safety facilities and also structures where large groups of people can congregate. The yellow represents that almost all facilities should be concerned with seismic restraint.
There are additional factors beyond the building type which come into play when determining if seismic restraint is required for your project. The soil classification and location of the facility to the fault lines plays an important part in the overall equation. Kinetics Noise Control can assist you in determining if seismic restraint is required for your project. Or, you can use our proprietary web application to determine if seismic restraint is required.
