The combination of the structural floor stiffness and mass, and the selection of the appropriate floor isolation system, is critical for noise reduction from heavy impacts and typical fitness activity. The addition of an isolated ceiling is recommended whenever possible for increased noise reduction.

Floors - Model LSM spring liftslab floor system offers the highest deflection and lowest natural frequency isolation. Snubbing isolation pads, Model KIP, are used with the springs in some cases to prevent excess floor movement under live loads. Model RIM with 2-inch to 4-inch thick pads offers very good isolation and is especially effective when an isolated ceiling can be installed below.

Ceilings suspended from concrete deck can use any of the following models depending on allowable ceiling drop and low-frequency isolation requirements. Note: Springs outperform pads as ceiling isolators for attenuating low-frequency sound.

  • Model IsoGrid compact neoprene hanger for drywall grid suspension
  • Model IsoMax lowest profile neoprene clip mounts to the bottom of the deck or the underside of the joists
